A kraft paper parcel with a cut-out paper pumpkin on top

Halloween is the one night of the year when people scare themselves on purpose. A Quest is perfect for that, but the store is packed, and not every horror game fits every crowd. So we put together a parcel: five games, sorted from “gently spooky” to “genuinely adults only.” Each pick gets a short pitch plus our Best for and Skip if note.

One heads-up first: availability, prices, and supported headsets change. Check the current store page before you buy, especially for older titles and for the Quest model you own. And look at the age rating in the store before younger guests put on the headset.

1. Hauntify Mixed Reality – Ghost hunting at home

Hauntify uses mixed reality for a ghost hunt that can run across several rooms of your home. The approach is more exploring and hunting than constant shock, and the game was last seen as an Early Access title, so it’s still in development.

Best for: Curious folks who want to try mixed-reality horror and enjoy wandering through their own home.

Skip if: You want a finished, complete game. Early Access titles can still change quite a bit.

2. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted – Jump scares by the minute

The well-known series about animatronic figures in a pizzeria got a VR version full of short mini-games with Help Wanted. You sit in tight rooms, watch cameras, close doors, and at some point something is right in your face.

Best for: Fans of the series and groups who pass the headset around. The short rounds make that easy.

Skip if: You don’t like scares that come on a fixed pattern. Almost everything here lives on the jump scare.

3. The Exorcist: Legion VR – slower, darker investigative horror

Based on the Exorcist film series, you investigate eerie places and cases across individual episodes. The pace is calm, the mood is oppressive, and the dread builds slowly instead of in one bang.

Best for: People who like atmosphere and investigation more than combat.

Skip if: Slow exploring and long stretches without action are too tedious for you. Also check beforehand whether the title is listed for your headset in the store.

4. Resident Evil 4 (VR) – the action-horror classic

The VR version of the well-known classic lets you play the campaign in first person, with weapons in your hands and enemies charging at you. It’s more action than horror, but noticeably bloody and long enough for many evenings.

Best for: Players looking for an extensive horror-action campaign who already have some VR experience.

Skip if: You just want to fill a short Halloween evening. The campaign is a bit too big for that. Check compatibility with your Quest model.

5. HAUNTED: Are You Alone? – your room is the nightmare

At the end of our scale is HAUNTED, explicitly PEGI 18. The mixed-reality game turns your scanned room into the level: a glitching witch stands in your corner, arms break out of your real walls, and a hole opens in your floor. The story runs about 25 to 35 minutes, after which three endless arcade modes with high scores are waiting.

What makes HAUNTED interesting for a Halloween evening: the scares are visible and physical. Onlookers see you duck, spin around, or crawl across the floor. If you stream, “Hide my room” can replace the passthrough image with a virtual padded cell so your own home isn’t visible. It’s played solo, so the headset goes from person to person.

Best for: Adult horror fans who want a short, personal shocker in their own living room, and hosts who want to show off something new.

Skip if: Anyone in the group is underage, pregnant, or has epilepsy, heart problems, or an anxiety disorder. The game’s content warning explicitly excludes these groups.

Price note: On Oct 10, 2026, HAUNTED: Are You Alone? cost £3.99 in the UK Meta Horizon Store. According to the store, it runs on Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S and doesn’t need an internet connection.

How to keep the scary night relaxed

A few rules that make any VR horror parcel better:

  1. Clear some space. Clear the play area before the first game starts. When people get scared, they often take a step back or spin around quickly.
  2. Go from gentle to hard. Start with the calmer titles and work your way up. That way everyone can bow out in time.
  3. One person keeps watch. Whoever isn’t playing keeps an eye on furniture, pets, and cables.
  4. Plan breaks. Between two rounds, take off the headset, turn on the lights, have a drink.
  5. Nobody has to. Getting scared only works if it’s voluntary. Watching is a role too.

Our verdict

For a mixed group of adults, we recommend a calm start with Hauntify or The Exorcist, a round of jump-scare fun with Five Nights at Freddy’s, and HAUNTED as the climax of the night. If you’d rather spend a long evening with a single game, go with Resident Evil 4. And if you only have half an hour, HAUNTED gives you a complete haunting with a beginning and an end.
