Quick verdict: MindIsland is a meditation app that turns one sentence about your day into a new, spoken meditation. After one free session, you’ll need a subscription.

Some people read every paragraph in the App Store before downloading. Most just want to know: what do I get, what does it cost, what’s missing? For exactly those readers, we treated MindIsland like a parcel and unpacked it piece by piece.

Why it made the parcel

MindIsland takes a different approach than the big library apps. Instead of offering you a finished recording, the app asks: “What would you like to meditate on?” You briefly describe what’s on your mind, and according to the maker you get a custom-generated meditation in seconds. That’s interesting for anyone who’s often thought during generic recordings: nice, but this has nothing to do with my problem.

Layer 1: What you get right away

After downloading, these pieces are on top:

  • One free meditation to start. According to the website FAQ, exactly one session is free.
  • The input field. Type or speak using the microphone icon.
  • Three lengths. 3, 5, or 10 minutes — there’s no more choice than that, and that’s intentional.
  • Voices and sound. Several calm AI voices and optional background music that gets quieter when the voice speaks.
  • The opening breath. Every session begins with four seconds in, a short pause, and six seconds out.

Layer 2: What’s behind Premium

According to the store description, the personalized meditations are part of MindIsland Premium. With the subscription, you use the app day to day:

Piece What it does
Personalized meditation A new session about the occasion you typed in
Daily meditation A freshly generated session every morning, no typing at all
Library Ready-made meditations in eight categories, including Breathe, Sleep, Focus, Anxiety Relief, and Gratitude
Articles Short texts on mindfulness, mindset, and philosophy, with a daily quote
History and stats All past sessions, ratings, favorites, daily streak, total time
Offline cache The last ten meditations stay on the device

For very full months, there are also packs with meditation credits. How many sessions the subscription exactly includes isn’t clear in the store listing. So we’re not promising “unlimited” meditations.

Layer 3: What it doesn’t have

You’ll search the box in vain for these pieces, and you should know that beforehand:

  • No trial period. We didn’t find one in the store listings.
  • No sleep stories. Despite “Sleep” in the store name, there are no bedtime stories; there is, however, a Sleep category in the library.
  • No sleep tracking, no alarms, no Apple Watch app. None of that is mentioned anywhere.
  • No meditations in German. The website is available in eight languages, but there’s no indication of any language other than English for the meditations themselves.
  • No human speakers. The voices are AI voices; there are no prominent narrators.

The package insert notes

Every parcel has a slip with the fine print. On MindIsland’s it says: the app is intended for relaxation and personal reflection, not a medical device, and it doesn’t offer therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. In the app itself there’s a note that the content is AI-generated and doesn’t replace professional advice.

On privacy: according to the website’s privacy policy, the Google Gemini interface generates the texts, Inworld provides the voice output, and the audio files are created and stored at AWS in Ireland. According to the website, you can export all your data or delete your account at any time. Anyone typing their worries into a text field should know that.

What the first evening looks like

  1. Download the app and open it.
  2. Either choose today’s daily meditation or tap “Create meditation.”
  3. Enter one sentence, choose length, voice, and background sound.
  4. Sit comfortably, lie down, or stay standing and press “Start meditation.”
  5. Then rate it or save it as a favorite.

There’s no more setup work than that.

Best for: Readers who just want the key facts before downloading and are looking for a short meditation about their real everyday life, not a general topic.

Skip if: You’re expecting a free app with a big library, bedtime stories, or meditations in your native language, if that isn’t English.
